Karen is a freelance writer currently based in Sydney, Australia.

Her focus in recent years has been contemporary craft and design and she is represented in local and international industry journals. She is trained in architectural ceramics and mixed media drawing, and has a Masters in Art History. Karen has worked as a curator, lecturer and exhibiting artist in addition to building her writing practice within the field.

Karen trained initially as a classical singer at the Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide, South Australia. She spent fifteen years in the chorus of the State Opera Company of South Australia, also singing minor principal roles and covering principal roles. More recently, she worked for Opera Australia as the Education Coordinator.

Her writing has developed through academic work in both art and music and she refers to herself as an accidental academic.

Karen has worked in education, producing teaching materials for Opera Australia and the Sydney Jewish Museum, which has opened new areas of research and writing that she is keen to pursue. She has recently contributed two chapters (music and visual art) in the recently published 'Real Men Wear Aprons', edited by Peter Lazar, a history of Freemasonry in Australia.
